Bellam Kudumulu, also known as Bellam Undrallu or Teepi Kudumulu, are an essential naivedyam for Vinayaka Chavithi in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
You need just 3 ingredients to make this dish: rice flour, jaggery and grated coconut; and of course, 20 minutes of your time.

Ingredients
1/2cupRice Flour
1/2CupJaggery(Grated)
1/2CupCoconut(Grated)
1tbspChana Dal
1/4tspCardamom Powder
1/2tspGhee(Use Oil for a vegan recipe)
Instructions
Soaking the Chana Dal
Soak 1 tbsp Chana Dal in some water for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Drain and set aside.
Making the Dough
To a heavy bottomed vessel add 1 cup water and 1/2 cup grated jaggery.
On medium flame, heat the mix and stir till the jaggery starts to dissolve.
Now, add the soaked and drained chana dal, and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes till it softens. The chana dal should soften and break when pressed with your finger.
Turn the heat down to low. Important! From now on we cook on low heat.
Add 1/4 tsp cardamom powder and 1/2 tsp ghee/oil, and mix well.
Now, add 1/2 cup grated coconut and mix well.
Finally add 1/2 cup rice flour and quickly mix well till the dough comes together as a ball.
Transfer to a plate and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
Making the Bellam Kudumulu
Add some water to a steamer, pressure cooker or idli cooker, and heat the water.
When the dough is still warm, with a greased hand, shape it into a ball.
Now divide the dough into 21 equal portions and shape each portion into: a ball, a disc, or an oblong shape.
Place the Bellam Kudmulu on a plate or idli stand, and place them in the pre-heated steamer.
Steam the Bellam Undrallu for 5 minutes.
Turn off the heat and open the steamer after 5 minutes.
