About Me

ArunaThere is not much else I say other than that I love cooking! For as long as I can remember, I have been collecting recipes and religiously trying them out. I have so many recipe books from across the world that I would soon need a separate section in the kitchen. 🙂

I learnt most of what I know about cooking from my mother, my maternal aunts, and my maternal grandmother. I now share this passion with my brother, sister-in-law, myriad cousins, and many friends.

I am a vegetarian (eggitarian, I guess, because I bake using eggs), but I watch all kinds of cooking shows and read all kinds of culinary arts books because the techniques fascinate me. I also find chefs in most restaurants only to glad to share tips and tricks, and regularly badger them!

I hope you enjoy my posts as much as I enjoy writing them.

    Hi Aruna, I really must congratulate you on the way you present your recipes. The Tips section at the end is a must for anyone who follows recipes to the ‘T’. They are simple not to mention nutritious and a boost to being Vegetarian!
    Kudos to you and hoping to see some age old traditional recipes from Andhra and other states as well. Good Luck in your Blog research.

      The Tips section is typically what my Amma, Ammamma, Dodda, Pinni, and Atta used to tell me when I cooked alongside them. They are probably more important than the recipe itself.

        I have been a renal patient for the last 20 years. My creatinine is between 5 and 6. From your recipes, I see that you must be aware of the gravity of creatinine between 5 and 6. Fortunately, I am not on dialysis, one of the reasons being diet control. I am really grateful to you for the renal recipes.

    Hey there Aruna! You started following my blog so I wanted to check out your blog and say, “Hi!” I’m always jealous of people who learned to cook from their mothers and/or grandmothers. My mom was too busy working and taking care of 6 kiddos to teach me how to cook. Much of the time my mom didn’t even cook. We had frozen dinners on a regular basis while I was growing up. When I moved out on my own, I continued eating mostly frozen dinners until I went to a healthy cooking class. The class promoted a vegan diet, and my husband and I are now vegan. I started cooking when I went vegan because I realized that it was the only way I was going to get healthy food. I’ve learned a lot, but I still have much to learn. Anyway, I’m so glad to e-meet you and I look forward to getting to know you better. Celeste 🙂

    Nonetheless, I am writing to you since I was wondering what ‘Aharam’ means.

    I am intrigued by this word. You see, At the moment, I live and work in Muscat, Oman and its been so for the last 20 years. All this time, I have never hear this word, but another one – ‘haram’.

    Would you care to enlighten me on what Aharam means, please?

      That reminds me of an incident from my childhood:

      Once someone in my home made sambar but I felt it was “pheeka”. In my quest to improve it I added Punjabi Garam Masala to it. 😀 My aunt, who was staying with us at that time, loved it and asked my mom for her special blend of sambar powder. 😀 😀
