This is a simple Moong bhaji that I make often to have with rotis. It is very easy to make, protein-rich, and is not calorie laden.
Ingredients
- Moong/Green Gram – 1 Cup
- Onion (optional) – 1 Medium
- Tomato – 1 Large
- Garam Masala – 1/2 tsp
- Ginger Garlic Paste (optional) – 1/2 tsp
- Red Chilli Powder – 1/2 tsp
- Turmeric – 1/8 tsp
- Oil – 2 tsp
- Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
- Curry Leaves – A few
- Salt to Taste
Method
- Pressure cook the Moong with 2 Cups of water till it is completely mashable.
- Chop the tomato and onion finely.
- In a kadai/wok, heat the oil.
- Add the mustard seeds and wait till they splutter.
- Add the finely chopped onion and saute till it is transparent.
- Add the finely chopped tomato and saute till the tomato is completely cooked.
- Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for 1 minute.
- Add the turmeric, red chilli, garam masala, and curry leaves powder.
- Mix well.
- With a heavy ladle, lightly mashed the cooked moong.
- Add the moong to the cooked onion and tomato.
- Mix well.
- Cook for 5 minutes.
- Serve hot with rotis.
Tips
- I soak the moong for a couple of hours before cooking. This way it cooks faster.
- You can omit the ginger-garlic paste and onions, but the bhaji tastes best if they are added.
