Bellam Kudumulu, also called Bellam Undrallu or Teepi Undrallu, are an essential naivedyam for Vinayaka Chavithi (Ganesh Chaturthi) in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Bellam Kudumulu are made out of rice flour, jaggery, and grated coconut with cardamom used for flavouring. This easy to make naivedyam gets done in about 15 minutes which is a blessing because of the array of dishes that have to made for the festival.
Tips to Make Excellent Bellam Undrallu
- The key to making excellent Bellam Undrallu is to make a soft and malleable dough. This needs you to cook on low heat once the jaggery has melted and the chana dal is cooked.
- If your dough is not soft, add just a bit of hot water before shaping it.
- Always ensure the water in the steamer

How to Make Bellam Kudumulu
- Soaking the Chana Dal
- Soak 1 tbsp Chana Dal in some water for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Drain and set aside.
- Making the Dough
- To a heavy bottomed vessel add 1 cup water and 1/2 cup grated jaggery.
- On medium flame, heat the mix and stir till the jaggery starts to dissolve.
- Now, add the soaked and drained chana dal, and let it cook for 5 to 7 minutes till it softens. The chana dal should soften and break when pressed with your finger.
- Turn the heat down to low. From now on we cook on low heat.
- Add 1/4 tsp cardamom powder and 1/2 tsp ghee, and mix well.
- Now, add 1/2 cup grated coconut and mix well.
- Finally add 1/2 cup rice flour and quickly mix well till the dough comes together as a ball.
- Transfer to a plate and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
- Making the Bellam Kudumulu
- Add some water to a steamer, pressure cooker or idli cooker, and heat the water.
- When the dough is still warm, with a greased hand, shape it into a ball.
- Now divide the dough into 21 equal portions and shape them into:
- balls
- discs
- oblong shapes (by first rolling the dough into a ball and then placing it on your fingers and closing the fist.)
- Place the Bellam Kudmulu on a plate or idli stand, and place them in the pre-heated steamer.
- Steam the Bellam Undrallu for 5 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and open the steamer after 5 minutes.
- Transfer the Bellam Kudumulu into a plate.
