While we enjoy all kinds of food and look for new cuisines to explore, there is something about simple, home-cooked food that always draws us to it. A very good example of this kind of food is this very easy to make Cabbage ad Peas Koora. It is the ultimate comfort food and is a dish always welcome in our home.

Eat this curry as a side dish to perugu annam (tair sadam or curd rice) or sambar rice. You will be in heaven! 🙂


  1. Cabbage/Gobi – 1/2 Kg
  2. Peas – 1 Cup
  3. Grated Coconut – 4 tbsp (optional)
  4. Rai or Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
  5. Udad Dal or Husked Black Gram – 1 tsp
  6. Chana Dal or Bengal Gram – 1 tsp
  7. Red Chillies – 2 or 3
  8. Oil – 1 tbsp
  9. Curry Leaves – A Few
  10. Salt to Taste


  1. Finely chop the cabbage.
  2. Boil about 2 litres of water with 1 tsp of water.
  3. Add the cabbage and peas.
  4. Cook covered for 8 to 10 minutes or till the cabbage is just cooked or turns transparent.
  5. Drain the water completely from the cabbage.
  6. In a kadai/wok, heat the oil.
  7. Add the mustard seeds and wait till they splutter.
  8. Add the udad dal and chana dal.
  9. Fry till golden brown.
  10. Add split red chillies and curry leaves.
  11. Fry for 3-5 seconds.
  12. Add the boiled cabbage and peas.
  13. Mix well.
  14. Add the grated coconut and mix well.
  15. Serve with rice or chapatis.
