This week my family decided to step outside its comfort zone and try making Falafel and Hummus at home. We made everything from scratch and the first step was to make Tahini.


  1. Sesame Seeds – 3 tbsp
  2. Extra Virgin Olive Oil – 5 tbsp


  1. Heat a heavy-bottomed wok or kadai.
  2. Add the sesame seeds and roast for 5 minutes.
  3. Set the sesame seeds to cool completely.
  4. Grind the roasted and cooled sesame seeds with the olive oil to a smooth paste.


  • Do not brown the sesame seeds.
  • Let the sesame cool completely before grinding.
