Baked Apples is a dessert that ticks many boxes. It is delicious, not overly sweet, festive but not complicated (in fact very easy to make), and absolutely a surprise to many who savour it.
I been meaning to try these Stuffed Baked Apples for a while now and got the perfect opportunity this weekend when I wanted to make a light yet delicious dessert for a group of friends.
Why I Loved These Baked Apples?
- The brown sugar used in the stuffing caramelized beautifully on baking and gave this dish just a hint of sweetness. Of course, the juiciness of the apple and the sweetness of the raisins perfectly complement the brown sugar.
- On baking, the apples soften but their retain a bit of the crunch. Then there were the chopped walnuts for additional crunch.
- The cinnamon, of course, is just the perfect spice for an apple-based dish, and lends the Baked Apple a hint of spiciness.

How to Make Baked Apples
- The Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 175C.
- Bring 3/4 cup water to a boil and let it simmer on low heat.

- Mix together 1/4 brown sugar, 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, 1/4 cup raisins, and 1 tsp cinnamon powder.
- Mix together 1/4 brown sugar, 1/4 cup chopped walnuts, 1/4 cup raisins, and 1 tsp cinnamon powder.
- Getting the Apples Ready
- Wipe 4 mid-sized apples well with a soft cotton cloth. My apples were 700 gms in weight.
- Using an apple corer, a paring knife, or a spoon, gently scoop out the apple from the stem to about 3/4 the height of the apple. Be careful to keep the bottom 1/2″ of the apple intact.
- Scoop out enough of the apple so that you have space for stuffing. I made about a 1″ wide well.
- Stuff the apples with the stuffing. Gently press the stuffing with your forefinger to pack it in.
- Place 1/2 tsp butter on top of each stuffed apple.
- Baking the Apples
- To an 8″ baking dish, add 3/4 cup hot water. The water prevents the apples from drying out.
- Place the apples in the water.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes at 175 C. The apples should just soften but not shrivel completely.
- Remove the apples from the water and place them on a rack to cool.
- Serving Suggestions
- Serve 1/2 a warm baked apple with a scoop of Vanilla ice-cream.
- Serve the Baked Apple by itself.
