I love raitas and I love red pumpkin/gummidikaya/lal bhopla. So this recipe for Lal Bhoplyacha Bharit is a great favourite of mine. I first had it, some two decades ago, at the home of a Maharashtrian friend and ever since, I make it often.

Red Pumpkin Raita | Lal Bhoplyacha Bharit | Kaddu Raita

Lal Bhoplyacha Bharit (Kaddu Raita or Pumpkin Raita) is a traditional Maharashtrian dish, and is often served in traditional meals at weddings and religious functions. This steam pumpkin in yogurt is great accompaniment to rotis. It also goes very well with spicy pulaos and biryanis where its sweetness offsets the spiciness.

Making this dish hardly takes any time and that is a blessing in this searing pre-monsoon Mumbai heat like we have been suffering over the past few days!

Lal Bhoplyacha Bhari | Red Pumpkin Raita | Kaddu Raita

Lal Bhoplyacha Bharit is very popular in Maharashtra and is essentially red pumpkin raita. I love the slightly sweet taste of this raita, and of course, this is a cool accompaniment to rotis in summer.
